I sound better in third person: Suman Giri was born and raised in Nepal, and moved to the States in 2007 for his undergraduate degree. He majored in Physics and Mathematics with Phi Beta Kappa Honors at Oberlin College, OH (2011). He then completed his Masters degree in Civil Engineering with Phi Kappa Phi Honors (2013), and a PhD in Advanced Infrastructure Systems (2015) at Carnegie Mellon University, PA. His research (under Dr. Mario Bergés ) explored the problem of Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring (NILM) where he looks to disaggregate appliance level power consumption data by monitoring the power features at the main circuit level. He currently works as a Data Scientist in the health sector at a Fortune 50 company. He is passionate about impactful problem solving at scale through intelligent use of data and design. His other interests include soccer, cricket, writing, global politics, behavioral psychology, and religion. After a few beers, he can also be heard singing, mostly off-key.
